7 Apps That you Need While Traveling

You bought your ticket, you booked your airbnb, and most importantly you grabbed your Went There Loved That Guide - all that’s left is to download a couple travel apps and you’re set. However, there’s honestly nothing more overwhelming than looking up which travel apps will help and which will just take up storage and leave you even more confused. We’ve gone through the mess of downloading hundreds of apps, loving some, hating others, and narrowing it down to our top seven must have apps before you take off - you’re welcome.

1.Skyscanner - There are a million booking apps for you to choose from but you really only need one. Skyscanner is a search engine that covers all corners of the internet and where we find almost all our cheap flights. Our motto, which is to book your trip based on the flight and not your flight based on the ticket, is best seen by Skyscanners “everywhere” and “everytime” feature which will comb through the web to get you the absolute best deals. If we had to delete all apps from our phone, we’d keep this one.

2. Citymapper - Again, there are a ton of public transit apps out there, but Citymapper really outshines them all. In our opinion, it has the most expensive options of cities and is usually pretty up to date. You can find the best transportation options including public transportation easily with Citymapper complete with live traffic reports and updates almost everywhere.

3. Splitwise - if you aren’t solo traveling, you NEED this app. Not only will it track and categorize your expenses but it is the best way to handle shared expenses - by far. Splitwise is kind of a magician and you can exit out of your calculator app and say goodbye to complicated Venmo transactions with this app which tracks who spends what and simplifies it at the end of the trip, letting you know exactly how much and who to pay.

4. Packpoint - a packing list is never fun to make, but Packpoint makes it easy. You essentially take a quiz letting the app know where you’re traveling, how many days, when, and what you’re wanting to do and the app will create a customized packing list complete with weather appropriate suggestions.

5. Google Translate: This may seem obvious, or like something you don’t need an app for but this is essential when you are going to a country which speaks a different language. The Google browser will not be enough - trust us. The app however, is easy to pull up, faster than the browser and most importantly you can SCAN any words and translate that way too. Perfection!

6. Whatsapp: basic but needed, Whatsapp is the main messaging app really anywhere besides the United States. It’s a great way to communicate with taxi drivers, hotel concierges, club promoters and everyone in between.

7. The Local Ridesharing App: as much as we live laugh love Uber, it’s actually banned in several countries and operates under a different name in others. A quick google (or if you have our guide a quick read through) will show you the ride sharing service that’s best and let you know which app to download.
